When I first arrived in New York last February everyone told me that I had to have authentic NYC pizza. I’m a pizza snob; my father is Italian and makes homemade pizza from scratch and even spins the dough on his finger like in the movies so naturally no restaurant pizza ever compared to the homemade pies my father makes… Until I discovered Fornino. In all fairness, I discovered Fornino within five days of moving to New York, which was relatively quick. I’d decided to go exploring to see what my new city could offer me, especially as I had already unpacked the boxes into my apartment which I’ve decided to rent, so that I had the chance to spend more of my money on things that matter, like pizza. And my experience at Fornino has been particularly amazing thus far. Located on Bedford Ave in the heart of Williamsburg, I found that my relationship with this little pizza joint with exposed brick interior was truly meant to be.
Each pizza pie is cooked in a wood-burning oven and done to perfection- they claim it’s scientific- the crusts come out crunchy on the outside and doughy on the inside. My favorite pizza on the menu is the Spinach, which is loaded with mozzarella, ricotta, pecorino, spinach, pine nuts, white truffle oil, and parmigiano. It melts in your mouth and I have been known to eat a large pie by myself. However, this afternoon I was craving something more traditional and pure so I ordered the Margherita. Everything was fresh and perfect! Fornino never disappoints.
